Mumbai and Kolkata Government Laboratory to begin EV Battery Testing Services

Due to the anticipated future increase in demand for electric cars (EVs), the government’s National Testing House (NTH) said on Monday that starting with the upcoming fiscal year, it will provide testing services for EV batteries and charging systems at its Mumbai and Kolkata centers. Such testing is now being done at the Automatic Research Association of India in Pune and the International Centre for Automotive Technology in Manesar (ARAI).
Since the majority of EV manufacturers are concentrated in Pune/Mumbai and the majority of EV battery manufacturers are concentrated in Kolkata, the NTH centers in Kolkata and Mumbai have been selected for this testing.

Testing of these products starts during the manufacturing process, and Srivastava stated that if testing labs are close to the manufacturing facilities, good quality products may be produced. At these two NTH facilities, imported machinery utilized in EV production can also be tested.
In order to guarantee customer safety, the Bureau of Indian Criteria (BIS) recently released performance standards for the EV battery market.
One of the major central government testing facilities, NTH was founded in 1912 and meets the demands for high-quality testing across a variety of fields. To address the testing needs of all governmental departments, CABs, and PSUs, it is registered in the Government e-Market (GeM) as a service provider in the category “Testing and Calibration Service.”

In addition to Mumbai, NTH also has centers in Chennai, Ghaziabad, Jaipur, Guwahati, and a satellite center in Varanasi. The lab has implemented a fully digital Laboratory Management Information System (LIMS), which allows customers to send product samples for testing from any location in the nation, book the necessary tests online, make payments online, and receive test results online.
