Luxury automotive brand Range Rover has officially opened the waiting list for its highly anticipated electric model, the Range Rover Electric. Prospective customers now have the opportunity to secure a place among the first to pre-order this latest addition to the Range Rover lineup.
With an expectation of filing more patents than any previous Range Rover model, the Range Rover Electric prototypes have commenced rigorous testing as part of engineering sign-off programs. These tests are designed to validate the vehicle’s capabilities across a spectrum of challenging conditions, including extreme temperatures and various terrains.
Range Rover aims to set new standards in vehicle quietness with a unique active road noise cancellation configuration and sound design. Thomas Müller, the Executive Director of Product Engineering at JLR, emphasized the brand’s commitment to creating the quietest and most refined Range Rover, dubbing it “the first of its type” and a groundbreaking global product unseen in the industry. Müller highlighted that the electric model, developed alongside its hybrid counterparts in the UK, will cater to a diverse range of client needs.
Physical prototype testing is currently underway, with a global testing program adapted for an electric drive system. This program spans extreme temperatures from -40°C to +50°C (-40°F to +122°F), ensuring the durability, integrity, and thermal performance of the Range Rover Electric.
Manufactured in the UK using the Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) in Solihull, the Range Rover Electric marks a significant milestone in the brand’s journey toward a net-zero carbon future. Notably, the batteries and electric drive units (EDUs) will be built and assembled at JLR’s Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Center in Wolverhampton, aligning with Range Rover’s ambitious goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2039.
