Eaton Unveils AEC-Q200 Certified Power Inductors for Robust Automotive Electronics

In the realm of automotive electronics, Eaton takes centre stage with its latest power inductors—integral components for constructing electronic circuits in vehicles. This release addresses crucial challenges in implementing LEDs in automobiles, providing a solution marked by AEC-Q200 certification, thermal resilience, and versatile applications.

    Key Highlights:

    1. Addressing LED Challenges:

Eaton’s power inductors tackle obstacles hindering LED integration in vehicles. The limitations of typical LDO voltage regulators are overcome, enabling efficient power supply to low beam, high beam, and stop lights with high intensity, essential for optimal visibility.

    2. Certified for Automotive Use:

These power inductors are AEC-Q200 certified, ensuring their compatibility with motor vehicle electronic circuits. Their operational temperature range (-40°C to 165°C, or 155°C for the HCM1A series) makes them suitable for diverse automotive applications, including the engine compartment.

    3. Versatile Applications:

Designed specifically for ‘boost’ and ‘buck’ switched-mode converters, Eaton’s power inductors find utility not only in lighting circuits but also in air-conditioning and heating systems, interior illumination control, and high-power electric motor controllers for functions like seat positioning and window operation.

    4. Series Overview:

    • DRA Series: Characterized by high power density and efficiency, available in two footprints (7.6×7.6mm or 12.5×12.5mm), with inductance ranging from 290nH to 1001µH and operating currents up to 15.9A.
    • DRAQ Series: Equipped with double winding, acting as a transformer/separator (1:1) and offering a wider range of voltages or currents. Available in inductances from 4.48µH to 217µH.
    • HCM1A Series: The smallest components with frequencies up to 1 MHz, operating temperatures from -55°C to 155°C, and notable maximum operating currents (1.3A to 52A) and saturation currents (up to 100A).

    5. Performance Advantages:

      • Power Density: DRA series excels with high power density and efficiency.
      • Versatility: DRAQ series offers double winding for varied voltage or current configurations.
      • Compact Design: HCM1A series stands out as the smallest yet highly efficient, suitable for radio communication circuits.

Eaton’s latest power inductors emerge as a game-changer in the automotive electronics landscape, providing reliability, resilience, and versatility for the future of LED-driven automotive lighting and beyond.
