The largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in India, Tata Motors, revealed that its completely owned subsidiary, TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd., and Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) have inked a binding contract for the operation of 921 electric buses in Bengaluru. TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd. will supply, run, and maintain 921 12-meter low-floor electric buses for a term of 12 years as part of the arrangement. The Tata Starbus Electric is a vehicle that was built domestically and has best-in-class features for environmentally friendly and comfortable commuting.
Managing Director of the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation, Ms. G. Sathyavathi, IAS, commented on the news, saying, “We are happy to have inked an agreement with TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd. for operating 921 electric buses in Bengaluru. We are certain that the introduction of eco-friendly, zero-emission buses will be advantageous to all parties involved and contribute to the reduction of air pollution. The extensive expertise of Tata Motors in the field of electric mobility will undoubtedly help to ensure an uninterrupted, secure, and comfortable journey throughout the city.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Asim Kumar Mukhopadhyay, CEO, and MD, of TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Limited, said, “We are thrilled to have partnered with BMTC in their effort to modernize and electrify the public transportation in the city of Bengaluru. It is a momentous occasion for us as we sign the first definitive agreement under the larger CESL tender. We are convinced that Bengaluru’s commuters will benefit from environmentally friendly, secure, and comfortable public transportation thanks to the electric buses.
Modern research and development facilities of Tata Motors have been working tirelessly to produce cutting-edge mobility solutions fueled by alternative fuel technology, such as battery-electric, hybrid, CNG, LNG, and hydrogen fuel cell technology. More than 730 electric buses from Tata Motors have been delivered to various cities in India so far. These buses have logged more than 55 million miles and have an uptime of over 95%.
