In a significant milestone for electric mobility, Mercedes-Benz proudly announces that its charging service, Mercedes Me Charge, now spans an impressive network of over 1.5 million charging points worldwide. Partnering with more than 1,300 charge point operators, the service stands as one of the largest public charging networks globally, operating consistently under the unified global product name.
This expansive charging network, available in 31 countries, plays a pivotal role in Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to an electric future. Europe hosts around 600,000 charging points, Asia boasts over 800,000, and North America has approximately 100,000. Notably, Mercedes Me Charge strategically places charging stations at key locations such as city centres, shopping malls, hotels, and along highways.
Franz Reiner, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Mobility AG, highlights the growth of Mercedes me Charge, stating, “In 2023, an average of 40,000 charging points were integrated every month. By doing so, we provide our customers a comprehensive network featuring transparent prices and easy access.”
Mercedes-Benz reinforces its dedication to sustainable and customer-focused mobility by ensuring that an equivalent amount of electricity from renewable sources is fed into the power grid for charging processes within Mercedes Me Charge in Europe, the US, and Canada.
Seamless Charging Experience
The integration of Mercedes me Charge into the MBUX multimedia system ensures a seamless and user-friendly charging experience. The navigation system, equipped with Electric Intelligence, calculates optimal routes inclusive of charging stops. Authentication at charging stations can be done through various methods, including the MBUX multimedia display, the Mercedes me app, the Mercedes me Charge RFID card, or Plug & Charge at cooperating charge point operators.
Customers enjoy the flexibility of their charging contract via Mercedes me Charge, rendering them independent of contracts with specific charging station operators. Each charging process is automatically debited through Mercedes me Charge, with monthly billing for all transactions.
Cost Transparency and Smart Charging Tariffs
Mercedes-Benz prioritizes cost transparency for public charging stations. Users can view specific costs per kilowatt-hour or minute, along with an estimate of the total charging cost on the MBUX display or the Mercedes Me app before initiating the charging process. Customers pay the standard rate set by the charging station operator, with the option in Europe to select attractive fixed prices through three Mercedes Me Charge smart charging tariffs (S, M, L).
As part of its commitment to expanding electric mobility, Mercedes Me Charge will continue to grow. The globally planned Mercedes-Benz Charging Network set to establish 10,000 charging points by the end of the decade, and collaborations in Europe, North America, and China will all be seamlessly integrated into the Mercedes me Charge network.
