    Mustang Advanced Engineering (MAE) Delivers Cutting-Edge Test Stand for Magna International’s Autonomous Delivery Vehicle

    A new and innovative test stand for research and development has been successfully delivered to Magna International, a top automotive engineering and manufacturing company, by Mustang Advanced Engineering (MAE), a well-known American manufacturer specializing in testing equipment, dynamometers, and related products.

    Designed as a pivotal training tool for automotive technical schools and to facilitate the research and development of future vehicles, the dynamometer test stand marks a significant leap forward in advancing autonomous delivery technology.

    Magna International, in collaboration with Marco’s Pizza, a renowned American pizza brand, is venturing into autonomous delivery methods in select locations within North America. To propel this initiative forward, Magna approached MAE to create a sophisticated testing system for their recently developed autonomous three-wheeled delivery vehicle.

    Travelling at speeds of up to 32 km/h, the autonomous driving system is equipped with advanced technologies such as cameras, radar, lidar, and other hardware to navigate seamlessly. The all-electric, lightweight robotic vehicle, known as AV, aims to reduce last-mile delivery costs and carbon emissions in urban environments, showcasing its potential as a game-changer in the delivery industry.

    MAE, known for its expertise in providing cutting-edge test stands economically, rose to the challenge, designing and creating the test stand by Magna’s timeline and testing parameters. Packed with essential features, including permanent restraints, a turntable for measuring turning radius during dynamic testing, an adjustable wheelbase, and an AC motor power absorber and flywheel for extra inertia, the test stand offers comprehensive testing capabilities.

    Michael Caldwell, Senior Account Manager at MAE, expressed, “Thanks to MAE’s history of providing sophisticated test stands in an extremely economical manner as well as our ability to create testing systems for autonomous vehicles, we were able to provide a great, simple testing solution for our customer.”

    The successful collaboration between MAE and Magna International highlights the strides being made in autonomous vehicle testing and underscores the pivotal role played by cutting-edge technology in shaping the future of last-mile delivery solutions. This innovative test stand represents a critical step forward in ensuring the seamless integration of autonomous vehicles into our everyday lives, offering a glimpse into the future of efficient and sustainable urban transportation.
